Credit card websites are a perfect example of companies being stuck in an old way of doing things. If you have a bill due on the 3rd, it is no trouble for the system to allow you to pay up until 11:59:59pm. At midnight, the system could automatically run a cron job to caculate all late fees and auto-generate a report to be ready before the office opened on the 4th. It really isn't that hard if people would just step back and realize that the entire reason for the 2pm cutoff is due to humans being slow and needing time to process things before they get off of work. Computers do not have that issue as they are incredibly fast at calculations and do not need to stop work for trivial things like sleep. ;)
